Newcastle United are dealing with a defensive crisis ahead of their trip to Manchester City as they can only boast of four fit first team defenders at the moment.

Boss John Carver is currently sweating on his defensive options as his squad are facing a serious injury crisis at the back with a number of their defenders sidelined.

They have conceded 37 goals in the Premier League this season and after losing Paul Dummett through injury against Crystal Palace last week, Carver is left with only Daryl Janmaat, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini and Massadio Haidara as the only fit defenders in the squad.

The Newcastle head coach might have to pick someone from the Under-21 side or play Ryan Taylor or Vernon Anita in defence against the English champions.

Newcastle will need to utilise all the resources at their disposal to get something out of their clash against Manchester City at the Etihad this Saturday.
