Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04 are plotting a summer move for Arsenal target and Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, according to German magazine Sport Bild.

The Germany international is out of contract in the summer and his decision to extend his stay with the European champions is still pending.

Though he is keen to stay with Carlo Ancelotti’s men, Khedira is currently assessing his options and has confirmed recently that he is still to make a decision on his future.

Arsenal have been tracking developments at the Bernabeu regarding Khedira since last summer and have been claimed to be keen on agreeing a free transfer at the end of the season.

AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund’s names have also come up in the speculation surrounding Khedira, but it was claimed last year that he has already agreed personal terms with Bayern Munich, something which both the club and the player have denied.

Now the latest German club to enter the race for the 27-year-old are Schalke and their general manager Horst Heldt has already expressed his interest with the player’s representatives over a potential summer switch for Khedira.

When asked about a summer switch for the midfielder, Khedira’s Germany team-mate and Schalke defender Benedikt Howedes said: “Sami and I like to exchange ideas, but so far a discussion on the transfer has not come up.

"However, there is no question that he is a quality player.”
