Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta believes that the Citizens are well equipped to take all three points against Liverpool this weekend and put pressure on leaders Chelsea in the title race.

The reigning Premier League champions will play Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday and with Chelsea playing Tottenham Hotspur the same day in the League Cup final, Manuel Pellegrini’s men will have a chance to cut the Pensioners’ lead at the top of the table to two points.

However, Zabaleta is wary of the threat posed by Brendan Rodgers’ side on their home turf. Last season, Pellegrini’s side lost 3-2 in the same fixture which almost scuttled their title bid.

“It’s always been a tough place for us to go but hopefully we can get the three points we need and take advantage of Chelsea playing in the Capital One Cup final”, Zabaleta told the club site.

The Argentine takes heart from the fact that Manchester City have been the best side on the road in the Premier League this term having collected 28 points from their 13 away games.

And the right-back hopes that the Etihad Stadium residents can continue their stellar away form in their remaining five league matches this season.

“We have been strong away from home all season and we must continue that form until the end of the season.

“We will go there to win, but are expecting a tough 90 minutes but we can close the gap at the top to just two points so this is a huge game for us”, he added.

Manchester City will look to put their midweek Champions League defeat to Barcelona behind them and get all three points against Liverpool on Sunday.
