Chelsea captain John Terry has hailed his side's League Cup final win over Tottenham Hotspur and believes it could be the start of something special for the current crop of players at Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham started the better at Wembley, controlling Chelsea and looking a genuine threat themselves. However, the Blues scored against the run of play, John Terry getting onto the end of a corner when it dropped and prodding the ball past Hugo Lloris. Chelsea were 1-0 up on the stroke of half-time.

Chelsea then quickly hit Spurs with a hammer blow in the second half, Diego Costa drilling in a shot which took a deflection off Kyle Walker in the 56th minute to put the Blues 2-0 up.

Spurs tried to push themselves back into the game, but Chelsea stood firm with stubborn defending and killed off Mauricio Pochettino's men.

The Blues introduced Didier Drogba for a cameo late on as they saw out the victory, earning a 2-0 result, and claimed the League Cup trophy.

Terry feels that Chelsea handled the pressure and the League Cup trophy could be the start of something special for the current Blues side, in the same way as the League Cup in 2005 pushed them forward.

"That's the first one and it's massive", he told Sky Sports.

"It meant a lot for us in 2004/05 and it could be the start of something very good.

"The pressure was there before the game, but that's what cup finals do to you. But we handled the pressure very well and we're delighted with the win.

"Deserved winners."
