Inter are still optimistic about signing striker Mauro Icardi to a new contract at the San Siro, but there is no agreement yet on a fresh deal.

Icardi has been linked with English giants Manchester United and Liverpool in recent weeks, however Inter remain determined to ensure the Argentine stays put.

Talks over a new contract have been taking place for a number of weeks and according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Inter believe positive progress has been made towards a renewal.

Inter have begun to shift towards meeting Icardi's wage demands of €60,000 per week, but there is still a disagreement related to image rights between the two parties.

The 22-year-old has been in red hot form for Inter this season despite the club's domestic struggles and a managerial change.

His current contract with Inter runs until the summer of 2018, but the Nerazzurri want to tie him down for a longer period.
