Chelsea captain John Terry believes that the uncertainty surrounding his future at the club has inspired him to perform better this season.

Terry led Chelsea to a League Cup victory on Sunday over Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley and added one more winners’ medal to his already bulging cabinet.




The Chelsea captain has played an important role in their season so far and might add one more Premier League title to his name by the end of the term.

However, his contract with the club expires in the summer and he is yet to sign a new deal with Cheslea, whose policy is to offer only 12-month deals to players over 30.
 


Terry admits that he wants to stay at the club next season, but has remained non-committal about extending his stay beyond that period.

However, the veteran defender feels the uncertainty surrounding his future has helped him to refocus and has inspired him to perform better in the current campaign.

"I have my little target to play next year, but, beyond that, two or three years, I don't know”, the former England captain told the BBC.

"The uncertainty has helped me", the defender added.

"The roles have reversed and now the power is in the club's hands. That has inspired me."

While Terry stayed put at Chelsea last summer, his veteran colleague and club legend Frank Lampard left.
