Liverpool Under-21 manager Michael Beale is pleased with the performance of his youngsters in their win over Chelsea yesterday and singled out his team’s defence for putting in a stellar display against the Blues strike force.

The Reds youngsters defeated Chelsea Under-21s 2-0 with Harry Wilson and Jerome Sinclair providing the goals in each half to help Liverpool clinch their third league win on the trot and climb to fifth in the table as a consequence.




Beale is pleased with the effort of his team and singled out their defensive displays for the win.

“Fantastic for the lads against a real top team, I am really proud of the players”, Beale told LFC TV.
 


He further added that had Liverpool been more clinical in front of the Chelsea goal, the Reds would have ended the first half with a larger lead.

“We could have gone two or three goals ahead before half time and I don’t think Lawrence [Vigouroux] has had to make a save and when you are playing against a team like Chelsea that is fantastic.”

Beale, who worked for ten years with Chelsea in various youth football positions, emphasised the work done by his defenders against a team that comprised of the prolific Dominic Solanke.

“Anyone who sees youth football in England knows how strong their front line is, and to keep a clean sheet against them and as I said Lawrence didn’t have to make a save tonight.

“The players deserve a massive pat on the back tonight.”

The manager has now set his sights firmly on Liverpool’s next fixture which happens to be the Merseyside derby against Everton. Beale expects a tough game against the Toffees.

"I am looking forward to the game against Everton, I am sure it will be similar to our game tonight against a really fit and mobile team."
