Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has lavished praise on his team-mate Philippe Coutinho and he has insisted that the Brazilian is among the best players in the Premier League at present.

Coutinho arrived at Anfield from Italian giants Inter Milan in January 2013 and has since gone on to become a regular fixture in manager Brendan Rodgers’ starting eleven.

The youngster has made 24 Premier League appearances so far in which he has scored and assisted four goals to help Liverpool climb to fifth in the table. After a slow start to the season, the Merseyside giants have picked up pace and are undefeated in their last 11 league fixtures.

The Brazil international’s stellar form of late has seen him named Liverpool’s Player of the Month three times in succession since December. It is no coincidence that his outstanding showings have coincided with the Reds’ surge up the Premier League.

In Liverpool’s last two Premier League fixtures against Southampton and Manchester City, the 22-year old scored two outstanding goals to help the Reds win the two matches. And the Slovakia international hopes that Coutinho continues his scoring touch.

“Philippe is doing well", Skrtel told the club site.

“The goals he scored against Southampton and on Sunday were just brilliant.”

However, the 30-year-old added that Coutinho brings more to the team than just his goalscoring ability and his overall performance is outstanding as well.

Skrtel went on to add that the Liverpool number 10’s current form makes him among the best players in the Premier League.

“But it's not only about the goals.

“The way he is playing and performing is absolutely magnificent.

“At the moment, I think he is one of the best players in the Premier League.”
