Kevin Strootman has rubbished speculation that he will find it hard to return to action for Roma after undergoing another knee operation, and revealed that his rehabilitation process is on schedule and he is slated to join the Serie A side for pre-season training.

A former Roma doctor claimed last month that Strootman’s latest knee injury is due to the fact that the surgery to repair his damaged knee ligaments, which he sustained early last year, was not done perfectly, which led to him becoming injured again.

He also raised concerns that the midfielder might have to go under the knife again to repair the damage and might never be the player that he was before his knee troubles started.

Roma president James Pallotta has rubbished the claims, saying that the Dutchman’s current injury has no connection with the cruciate ligament injury he sustained last year.

Strootman also stressed that there is not a grain of truth in the speculation surrounding his injury and revealed that he is on schedule to return for pre-season training with Roma.

“Contrary to reports in the media I am back in training and working hard on my comeback”, the Dutchman wrote on Twitter.

“Please don't believe people who have never seen me in their lives, but just follow the social pages of me and AS Roma where we will keep you updated on my progress.

“Just for the record, I'm right on schedule to be back when pre-season starts.”

Manchester United, who have been continuously linked with him, will be keenly following developments regarding Strootman in order to make a decision on whether to make a move for him in the summer once he is declared fit.
