Ajax coach Frank de Boer believes that his side have little chance of keeping hold of Davy Klaassen if he continues to improve at his current rate.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has been turning heads with his performances for Ajax and has been watched by a number of Premier League clubs in recent months. Klaassen has been widely linked with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, and even Chelsea. Several representatives from Premier League clubs were spotted at a recent Ajax clash.

De Boer is hoping to hold onto Klaassen, but has taken a realistic approach given the starlet's performances and rapid improvement rate at the Amsterdam ArenA this term.

The Dutch tactician told Voetbal International: "If Klaassen continues to develop at this rate, you know that he will almost certainly be gone in 18 months."

Ajax handed Klaassen the number 10 shirt at the club following the departure of Siem de Jong to Newcastle United last summer, in a sign of his growing importance.

Just 22 years old, the Dutchman has been a regular fixture of De Boer's side this term, clocking up 23 Eredivisie appearances to date, with five goals and nine assists.

Klaassen also played in all six of Ajax's Champions League group games earlier this season, scoring twice and providing a single assist.

He is locked down on a contract at the Amsterdam ArenA until the summer of 2018.
