Manchester United are set to refuse to take up the option of signing striker Radamel Falcao on a permanent deal this summer, it has been claimed.

Since his arrival from Monaco last summer on a loan deal, the Colombian has failed to make his mark at Old Trafford and has scored only four goals for Louis van Gaal’s men this season.

His agent, Jorge Mendes, is expected in England this week to discuss the possibility of Falcao signing for the Red Devils on a permanent deal, but the club are set to refuse to take up the option.

According to L’Equipe, the Manchester United hierarchy made their decision on Falcao when they saw him struggle against League One opponents Preston North End in the FA Cup last month, which resulted in him being substituted on the hour mark.

Though injuries have taken a toll on his body, Manchester United believe investing €55m on a player who will turn 30 next season would not be the most sensible decision and the club are set to pass on the opportunity of tying him down to permanent deal at Old Trafford.
