Atletico Madrid have cooled speculation that they want to buy Edinson Cavani from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

The Spanish champions have been strongly linked with Cavani and it has even been claimed they are willing to sell several players, including winger Arda Turan, in order to bring in the Uruguayan striker.

However, according to Spanish daily AS, Atletico Madrid have let it be known that they are not in the race for Cavani as they feel he would be too expensive.

Cavani has regularly been linked with the Parc des Princes exit door in recent months, with a number of clubs, including Arsene Wenger's Arsenal, claimed to be keeping tabs on his situation.

The former Napoli man is often overshadowed at PSG by Zlatan Ibrahimovic and has regularly been said to be unhappy in the French capital.

It remains to be seen whether Cavani will be on the move this summer, however keen to comply with UEFA's financial fair play regulations, PSG could cash in on the striker in order to bring players in.

Cavani, who has often been shunted out of position by PSG coach Laurent Blanc, has scored just eight goals in Ligue 1 so far this season.

Ibrahimovic has scored eleven goals in six fewer games than Cavani.
