Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is desperate to add the FA Cup to the list of trophies that he has won at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils last won the competition in 2004, beating Milwall in the final at the Millennium Stadium and the England striker arrived at the club that summer.

Since then he has only faced disappointment in the competition and has been on the losing side in two FA Cup finals, firstly in a penalty shoot-out defeat to Arsenal in 2005 and again in 2007, when Didier Drogba broke Manchester United hearts with a goal in extra time.

The Manchester United captain admits that the FA Cup is still a very coveted trophy in England. He is now desperate to add it to his list of honours won at Old Trafford and end the club’s more than a decade long barren run in the competition this season.

“Of course, I think it is a massive trophy”, Rooney told the club’s official site.

“It is a trophy that, growing up as a youngster, I used to love watching and I was fortunate enough to see Everton lift the FA Cup in 1995 when I was nine years old.

“It is something which I would love to do and hopefully it can be this year.”

The FA Cup is Manchester United’s only realistic chance of winning a trophy this season and they will be hosting the Gunners in the quarter-final on Monday night at Old Trafford.
