Welsh midfielder Joe Allen believes that he is a much more versatile player at Liverpool than he was at Swansea City.

Allen made 145 appearances for Swansea City and played a key role in the club’s rise from the third tier of English football to the Premier League before joining Liverpool in the summer of 2012.

His former Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers wanted the midfielder at Anfield when he took over the reins at Liverpool and the 25-year-old has established himself as a crucial member of the Northern Irishman’s squad.

Allen admits that it has not always been a bed of roses for him at Anfield, but believes that he has improved as a footballer since his move away from the Liberty Stadium.

The Welshman also feels he has added a lot to his game since he joined Liverpool in 2012 and believes that he is a much more versatile operator now than he was at Swansea.

"There has been growth", Allen told the club’s official site.

"There have been a few frustrations with injury, but I've moved forward a lot.

"The responsibilities that I have in this team are a lot different to Swansea, so the type of player I've become is different. I'm certainly more versatile.

“I've added a lot to my game and I'm looking forward to going back and playing there again."

Liverpool will make an away trip to the Liberty Stadium to take on Swansea City tonight and it remains to be seen whether Allen finds himself in the starting eleven against his former team.
