Schalke chairman Clemens Tonnies has said that Arsenal target Sami Khedira would perfectly fit into their squad, but stressed that they are not “crazy” about signing the Real Madrid midfielder.

It has been speculated for the last few weeks that the Germany international is on his way back to his homeland and that he has agreed a deal with Schalke to join the club in the summer.

While Arsenal have maintained their long term interest in the player, it has been claimed that Khedira snubbed interest from another German club in the form of Borussia Dortmund to sign a contract with Schalke.

Though Tonnies refused to give credence to the rumours that Khedira will join Schalke at the end of the season, he did admit that the player has the ability to fit into their squad.

However, he tried to calm the speculation down by saying that Schalke at the moment are not losing their mind over signing the midfielder.

“He would easily fit into our system”, Tonnies told German magazine Sport Bild.

“He is a leader and a fighter, but it is also true that we are not going crazy about signing him.”

While many believe a deal is all but done, it has been speculated that both parties have decided to keep the agreement under wraps until June when Khedira enters the last month of his contract with Real Madrid.
