Wolfsburg boss Dieter Hecking has indicated that Manchester United target Kevin De Bruyne may well not stay at the club until his contract expires in 2019, but he believes he will play in the Champions League with them next season.

De Bruyne’s performances have carried Wolfsburg to second in the league table behind Bayern Munich in Germany and they have also qualified for the last eight of the Europa League.

The former Chelsea playmaker’s rise in the Bundesliga has not slipped under the radar of the top clubs and Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is believed to be plotting a move for him in the summer.

The Belgian is also generating keen interest from French champions Paris Saint-Germain, but Hecking feels De Bruyne will not be leaving Wolfsburg at the end of the season.

Though he indicated that De Bruyne might move away from the club soon, he is confident that the Belgian will grace the Champions League next term in Wolfsburg colours.

“He is aware of the interest from the top European clubs”, Hecking told Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws, speaking about De Bruyne.

“But he has given me the impression that he is not interested in the matter; he just wants to play football.

“Kevin is smart, he is not promising that he will stay at Wolfsburg until 2019, but I can see him playing for us in the Champions League next season.”
