After failing to reach an agreement with AC Milan over a new deal, Manchester United linked midfielder Nigel de Jong is set to leave the San Siro at the end of the season.

The Dutch international’s contract with the Rossoneri is set to run out this summer and the club and the player have been negotiating terms of a new deal for some time now.

However, with AC Milan languishing in tenth in the league table and with interest from Manchester United, it has been claimed De Jong has decided to end his three-year association with the club.

According to Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset, the Dutch international is set to leave AC Milan at the end of the season and is seeking a move back to the Premier League, where he played at Manchester City between 2009 and 2012.

Louis van Gaal is an admirer of the midfielder and De Jong was a key part of his Dutch squad, which played in the semi-final of the World Cup last summer.
