Leeds United chief operating officer Matt Child has left the Yorkshire giants after only months in the job, according to BBC Radio Leeds.

Child's arrival was officially announced in December last year, with former president Massimo Cellino insisting that the new chief operating officer would be responsible for the day to day running of the club.

Following Cellino standing down as president to serve a Football League ban, Child's role at the club became even more vital, but he has now walked away from Elland Road.

The chief operating officer spoke warmly of Leeds only in January, when he backed Cellino returning to the club eventually.

Child said at the time: "I can't speak for him, but I hope that he continues to own Leeds United and utilises his funds and his knowledge to allow us to get back into the Premier League and into Europe."

Child became involved at Elland Road in an unofficial capacity several months before being officially appointed as the club's chief operating officer and at the time spoke of his honour at the role, as he considers himself a Leeds fan.

He explained: "I have been involved for a few months behind the scenes and have been hugely impressed by the president's passion, commitment and will to win.

"We find ourselves in interesting times but as a Leeds fan I know only too well that we are often at our best when we have adversity to overcome. We have a number of big tasks ahead of us but if any club can do it, we can."
