Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Ryan Mason is pleased by his side’s win over Leicester City after Spurs’ disappointing loss to Manchester United in their previous clash.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men were taken apart by Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United in their encounter at Old Trafford on 15th March. A breathtaking attacking display from the Red Devils led to them scoring three goals within the first half and put the match beyond the visitors’ reach.

Defeat to Manchester United undermined Spurs’ challenge for a spot in the Champions League next season and they bounced back with a crucial win over Leicester City.

Harry Kane’s first Premier League hat-trick helped Pochettino’s men to a 4-3 win over the Foxes at White Hart Lane on Saturday and keeps the north London outfit within touching distance of a spot in the top four.

Mason, whose stellar contributions this term have seen him rewarded with a contract extension that will see him at the club until the summer of 2020, feels that his team needed to win all three points following their debacle against the Red Devils.

“It was important to bounce back from the disappointment of last week’s defeat at United”, he told the club site.

“Leicester made it tough for us but we got the three points so we’re all happy.

“We had a chance at 2-0 when Christian hit the post and if that had gone in it might have been a different game but they got a goal back and then the momentum was with them.

“It went to 2-2 so for us to get another two goals and get back to 4-2 says a lot about the character in this team.

“It’s always difficult when momentum is going against you but we’ve done it so many times this season.

“We should have killed the game off at 2-0 but credit to Leicester; they gave it a real go. It was one of those games but we got the three points.”
