England captain Wayne Rooney has hailed Harry Kane, who had an instant impact at international level by scoring against Lithuania this evening.

Rooney scored the first goal in England's 4-0 Euro 2016 qualification rout of Lithuania at Wembley, striking after only six minutes of the match.

Danny Welbeck then put the Three Lions 2-0 up on the stroke of half-time, before Raheem Sterling made it 3-0 in the 58th minute.

Kane was brought off the bench in the 72nd minute to replace Rooney and instantly made his presence felt.

The Tottenham Hotspur man scored with just his third touch in international football, heading in a cross from Sterling at the far post to send Wembley into raptures.

And Rooney was quick to salute the 22-year-old, telling ITV: "Harry Kane came on and international football is different, but to score after 80 seconds is incredible for him."

Rooney also took time to praise England's performance against Lithuania, saying it will frighten other teams in Europe.

"Since the World Cup we have been fantastic. We've had some great victories, are scoring goals and we have real energy around the team.

"A lot of teams will be looking at this team around Europe and will be frightened."

England are top of Group E in Euro 2016 qualifying, with a perfect record of five wins from five games.
