Leeds United head coach Neil Redfearn says that club owner Massimo Cellino has fully bought into his desire to promote youngsters from the Whites academy into the first team.

Redfearn was in charge of Leeds' academy before being handed the reins of the first team on a permanent basis earlier this season.

The 49-year-old has regularly turned to a youthful option when available and now Charlie Taylor, Sam Byram, Alex Mowatt and Lewis Cook all play when fit.

Further youngsters are being lined up to be blooded by Redfearn and Cellino, who brought in a number of overseas players last summer, fully supports the policy, the head coach says.

"The conversations that I had with Massimo pre his [Football League] ban were good. He likes the kids being in, the fact the overseas lads have integrated quite well", Redfearn told BBC Radio Leeds.

"It's been difficult for some of them, but the majority have taken to it well.

"And the resurgence of some of the lads who have been here a while has been a big plus.

"So there's been a lot of positives and pluses and he knows that."

Redfearn's contract at Leeds is due to expire in the summer and the club have not yet initiated renewal talks with the 49-year-old.

And that is despite him having transformed the Whites into one of the most in-form sides in the Championship and having sent the average age of the team tumbling.
