Manchester United defender Chris Smalling insists that he does not want to leave Old Trafford, despite not yet having extended his contract with the Red Devils.

Smalling's current deal at Old Trafford is due to expire in the summer of 2016 and negotiations over an extension are expected to only kick off this coming summer.

A number of clubs have been alerted to Smalling's situation at Manchester United, with the centre-back having been linked with Arsene Wenger's Arsenal recently.

But the former Fulham centre-back is hoping to remain at Manchester United and was quoted as saying by ITV: "Yes, I do [want to stay at Old Trafford for the long term].

"I am enjoying it. I always have, and if I can contribute then I am happy to stay for as long as they want me."
