Manchester United are ready to rekindle their interest in Real Madrid’s Portuguese full-back Fabio Coentrao in the summer.

Former Red Devils manager David Moyes did try to get the 27-year-old on transfer deadline day in the summer of 2013, but the deal failed to materialise at the last minute due to a lack of paperwork.

Though Luke Shaw is still considered as the long-term left-back at Old Trafford, his injuries this season have been a cause for concern for Louis van Gaal and the Dutchman wants to strengthen that position in the summer.

While Daley Blind has shown some fine form at full-back, Van Gaal wants to use him in midfield and is looking to bring in a natural left-back at the end of the season to provide competition for Shaw.

According to AS, the Manchester United manager has zeroed in on Real Madrid’s Coentrao and is ready to rekindle the club’s interest in the Portuguese international in the summer.

Coentrao has made only 14 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions this season and though he has a contract until 2019, the Portuguese is believed to be keen to move to secure more first team football at a different club.

His lack of football is not a concern for Van Gaal, who feels at 27 the Portuguese still has a lot to offer and is keen to take him to Old Trafford at the end of the season.
