Celtic midfielder Gary Mackay-Steven has said that winning a historic domestic treble this term remains the team's aim, but added that they are not looking too far ahead and their focus remains on their next match.

Ronny Deila’s men have already won the Scottish League Cup and have made it to the semi-finals of the Scottish FA Cup, where they are drawn to play Inverness Caledonian Thistle when the prestigious domestic cup competition resumes in April.

Having taken a commanding five-point lead over their nearest rivals Aberdeen in the league standings, the Hoops remain strong favourites to win their fourth successive league title.

Their strong form and position in the Scottish Cup and the league have made Deila’s side strong favourites to end the season with a historic treble and Mackay-Steven is relishing the prospect of ending the year with three trophies in tow.

“The treble is the big aim for this season but we’ll take it one game at a time”, he told Celtic View.

“The boys did great the other week getting the first step of that and obviously it would be massive.

“It’s not been done for quite a number of years because it’s so hard to do but there’s a real belief that we have the squad capable of doing it if we can be at it every game.”

However, Mackay-Steven, who joined the Bhoys on transfer deadline day in the winter window earlier this year, insists that Deila has instructed his charges not to look too far beyond their next fixture.

“The manager drills it into us how important it is to train hard and just focus on the next game and not to look too far into the future.

“Certainly it would be amazing for everyone.”
