Manchester United and Liverpool linked Slovakian midfielder Marek Hamsik might be on his way out of Napoli this summer if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

Arriving at Napoli in 2007, the 27-year-old has been a consistent performer for the club over the years and is a fan favourite at the Stadio San Paolo.

However, Hamsik is believed to be considering his future at the club after the club dropped out of the Champions League spots over the last few weeks.

The Slovakian wants to play in Europe’s elite level competition consistently and with Napoli eight points off third placed Lazio, Hamsik is considering leaving the club at the end of the season, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Though not out of the Champions League race completely, Napoli are facing a race against time to qualify for the competition with nine league fixtures left to play this season. They could however also qualify by winning the Europa League.

Napoli want to hold on to the midfielder, but failure to qualify for the Champions League could well lead to his exit from the San Paolo this summer.

Both Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with Hamsik at various points over the last 12 months and may be interested should he push to leave Napoli.

However, the Reds are also in a precarious position in the league regarding Champions League qualification and Hamsik could reject offers from non-Champions League clubs.
