Newcastle United boss John Carver has urged his side to get something from the Liverpool game tonight to avoid falling into the relegating dogfight.

The Magpies are 13th in the league table on 35 points, nine points of the relegation zone – but they are currently on a dreadful run of form. Newcastle are on a four-game losing streak and have won just three times in the league since the turn of the year.

The Newcastle boss admits that with their current run of form slipping into the relegation quagmire remains a worry for him and they need to collect points to secure their Premier League status.

Carver stressed that they need to come away from Anfield tonight with something in their bag and admits that he doesn’t care how they play as long as long as they can gather points.

"Relegation is always a worry”, Carver told the club’s official website.

“We need to start picking up the points somewhere no matter how we do it. I'm not too concerned with how we play, I'm more concerned with the final result and we need to get something from Liverpool.”

The Newcastle boss also feels that they are not in for an easy night against Liverpool as he believes Brendan Rodgers still feels the Reds can qualify for the Champions League and will prepare his team accordingly.

"They are only seven points off the top four and they'll definitely think they still have a chance of getting there.

“I'll be very surprised if their manager hasn't prepared them for our game with that in mind.”
