Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim believes his side did enough against Juventus last night to suggest that they belong at the top level.

An Arturo Vidal penalty in the 57th minute was the difference between the two sides in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie at the Juventus Stadium.

The Ligue 1 side showed resilience to keep the Italian champions at bay and even had chances to score in the first half, which would have given Juventus a bloody nose in front of their home fans.

Based on their performance, the Monaco manager feels his side deserved to get something out of the game against the Bianconeri but stressed that they are going to give a better account of themselves in the second leg at the Stade Louis II next week.

“Of course [we deserved more]. It was an even game. We dominated the first 20 minutes of the first half and the first 20 minutes of the second half”, Jardim told UEFA.

“We had hoped to come away with a better result. It's going to be completely different in Monaco – we will give a different impression of ourselves in our home game to make it through.”

Jardim was pleased with the performance of his men and believes that they showed enough against Juventus last night to silence their doubters, who are sceptical about their presence in the latter stages of the Champions League.

“We showed we're an organised, good team and we created real problems for Juventus.

“At this level, you've got to have a certain degree of effectiveness and I think we showed that. We created good chances going forward.”
