FC Porto boss Julen Lopetegui was proud of his side’s performance against Bayern Munich last night.

A brace from Ricardo Quaresma and another goal from Jackson Martinez helped Lopetegui’s men to register a shock 3-1 win over the German champions in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie at the Estadio do Dragao.

Though the Bavarians had more of the possession, the home side created more chances and were always a threat going forward against Pep Guardiola’s men.

Lopetegui admits that playing against a quality team such as Bayern Munich was always going to be a challenge but said that the two early goals showed Porto’s intention to compete with the Bavarians.

“Playing against Bayern is always difficult, but we made a great start to the game against the greatest team in the world in terms of possession”, Lopetegui told UEFA.

“In the first half maybe we should have kept the ball better but we corrected that in the second.”

He is already looking forward to the second leg at the Allianz Arena next week and the Porto boss is expecting another tough encounter away from home. Lopetegui also said that he needs to find alternatives for Danilo and Alex Sandro, who are suspended for the second leg.

“The match in Munich will be different and we will not be able to count on two important players, so we will have to find solutions.”
