Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal was not amused when being interviewed by a BBC reporter following his side's 1-0 defeat at Chelsea.

Van Gaal's men dominated the game at Stamford Bridge, restricting Chelsea to just 29 per cent possession of the ball, while in the second half the Blues actually hit just 25 per cent possession in their own backyard.

Jose Mourinho's men won the match, but Van Gaal, who was forced to make several changes including dropping Wayne Rooney into midfield, feels his side produced their best performance under him so far.

And he did not take kindly to the questions he was asked by the reporter, who opened by asking if he was frustrated at having lost.

"I'm not frustrated. I am very proud of my team. Why do I have to be frustrated? We played the best match of the season", he said.

The reporter then said 'Is that how highly you rate the performance?', leading Van Gaal to shoot back: "Yes, you don't?"

The reporter replied 'I'm interested in how you see it', leading Van Gaal to say: "OK, that's good, that you are interested."

Van Gaal was then questioned over whether he was happy with the way his system worked given he had to make a number of changes through injury.

And the Dutchman looked anything but amused by the question.

"When I say we have played the best match in the world, is this a rhetorical question I think?"

Manchester United continue to sit third in the Premier League, but are now eleven points behind leaders Chelsea and look all but certain to be out of the title race.
