Former Manchester United boss David Moyes has lamented the quality of the Premier League this season, saying that the current edition of England’s top flight football has been poor.

Moyes is currently in charge of Spanish La Liga outfit Real Sociedad after he was hired last November following the departure of Jagoba Arrasate. The Scotsman has guided La Real to mid-table security following their poor start to the season which saw them hovering around relegation zone.

The 51-year-old has extensive experience in the Premier League, having managed Everton for more than 11 years before his ill-fated ten-month tenure at Manchester United in the 2013/14 season.

Moyes feels that the current edition of the Premier League has not lived up to its high standards, saying that it is perhaps the worst edition since the league began in 1992.

“From my opinion, I think it's as poor a Premier League as I've seen, maybe since the start of the Premier League”, he told BT Sport.

League leaders Chelsea appear on course for the league title this term and if results in the next few weeks go in their favour, the Pensioners could be crowned champions long before the last round of the league begins.

And Moyes feels that a lack of competition in the league this term has undermined its quality.

“When you think of the great players who have graced the Premier League and the teams, I look at this year and I don't see that.

“I see good teams, very good teams and some great players, but I just don't see the competition the way it was in years gone by.”
