Jurgen Klopp is keen on taking over as Liverpool manager if the Anfield club ask him to do so, according to Irish daily the Herald.

The German tactician is leaving his role at Borussia Dortmund in the summer and has vowed not to take a break from football as he considers his future.

Klopp, who led Dortmund to two Bundesliga titles and to the final of the Champions League, has been linked with Liverpool.

Current Reds boss Brendan Rodgers saw the chance to win his first major trophy in his managerial career go up in smoke against Aston Villa in the FA Cup at the weekend, while he also presided over a disastrous return to the Champions League for Liverpool, with a second string team played against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu at one point.

However, despite Liverpool looking set to miss out on the top four in the Premier League too, it is unclear whether the club's American owners are eyeing a change.

Klopp though is said to prefer the prospect of taking charge at Liverpool to that of bossing either Arsenal or Manchester City, two other English clubs he has been linked with.

Dortmund flirted with relegation during the first half of the season this term, but have risen to mid-table.

Klopp has grown increasingly frustrated with losing key players in recent years, seeing Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski both leave for Bayern Munich, in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
