FC Porto boss Julen Lopetegui feels his side gave as much of a fight as possible last night but admits that Bayern Munich proved to be too good for them in their Champions League quarter-final tie.

A 3-1 win at home last week was a source of huge confidence for Porto when they arrived at the Allianz Arena last night for the second leg.

However, Bayern Munich scored four first half goals to take the game away from Porto’s grasp and two more strikes after the break completed the thrashing.

Lopetegui admits that their first half performance was not up to the mark, which led to their exit from the Champions League.

However, he pointed out that Bayern Munich are one of the favourites to win the trophy this year and there is an ocean of difference in terms of experience between both the sides.

He admits that though his Porto side fought hard, Bayern Munich had too much quality for them on the night.

“We didn't play well in the first half”, Lopetegui told UEFA.

“Bayern are one of the best teams in Europe and are one of the favourites to win the UEFA Champions League.

“We have to remember that in terms of experience, there are three or four hundred matches' difference between the two sides.

“Bayern are a fantastic team and we fought as hard as we could.”
