Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen is wary of the Southampton threat tomorrow but insists that his team have their own pace and strength to counter them and return with all three points.

The two teams, placed side by side in the league, will lock horns at Southampton's home ground St. Mary's Stadium tomorrow, knowing that a win will be important for both of them as they look to further their claims for a European spot next season.

However, ahead of the crucial encounter, the 28-year-old has warned his side against their opponents' defensive threat and their ability to counter with pace.

“Southampton are a very good team, they’ve played very well this season like they did last season and they’re a difficult team to beat”, Vertonghen told his club's official website.

“They play very well from the back so I think it’s going to be an exciting game. "

The Lilywhites on the other hand have been good on the road, having scored 24 away goals, the fourth highest in the league and will be confident about scoring a few more against Ronald Koeman's side tomorrow, the defender insists.

“We’ve been very good at scoring goals in away matches and I think we’ve been strong overall. We’ve got a lot of players that can score goals so hopefully we can punish them.

“Of course, they are very strong at the back. They’re very organised, they’ve got two defensive midfielders who have done a lot of defensive work and going forward they have a lot of pace but we just have to stop them.

“We’ve got pace as well as strength so it’s going to be very equal and I hope we can take the win back to north London.”
