Liverpool are showing interest in Barcelona defender Marc Bartra ahead of a potential summer swoop.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers insisted earlier this week that the club are under way with their summer transfer strategy and it appears that 24-year-old Bartra is under consideration at Anfield.

Indeed, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Rodgers is attracted by Bartra's versatility, with the Spaniard able to operate both at full-back and centre-back.

Bartra is a product of Barcelona's esteemed youth system and turned out for the club's B team before being promoted to the senior ranks.

He is however still firmly on the fringes and has managed only eleven appearances in La Liga for the Catalans so far this term.

But while Bartra may be tempted by the prospect of more first team football at Liverpool, it is unclear whether Barcelona will consider parting with the defender.

The Blaugrana are currently banned from signing players by FIFA and will only be able to add to their squad once again in the 2016 winter transfer window.
