Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar insists he has not spoken to Louis van Gaal about the possibility of joining Manchester United in the summer transfer window and has vowed to instead concentrate on his football.

Vlaar is out of contract with Aston Villa in the summer and has been continually linked with Manchester United since Van Gaal took charge last year.

The former Feyenoord man played under Van Gaal for the Netherlands at the World Cup last summer in Brazil.

Van Gaal could be attracted to the prospect of adding Vlaar as a bargain signing in just a few months, but the defender insists he has not spoken to his former national team boss.

"There are many rumours floating around, but we've never talked about it", he told FOX Sports, on speaking to Van Gaal about a move.

"There has never been contact and I'm not spending any time thinking about it.

"I want to play football. I'm fit", Vlaar added.

The Netherlands international played his part in helping Aston Villa reach the FA Cup final, clocking all 90 minutes against Liverpool in last weekend's semi-final, which ended in a 2-1 win for Tim Sherwood's men.

Aston Villa may have cause to hope that winning the FA Cup and the European football that would bring could convince Vlaar to pen a new deal.
