Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke insists that midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has not told the club he does not wish to extend his contract.

Gundogan has been at the centre of a number of stories since last night, when it was claimed in Germany that Manchester United have agreed a fee for his services and the midfielder would sign a contract with the Red Devils this weekend.

Dortmund have been quick to deny the suggestion, while Manchester United also let it be known they are not close to signing Gundogan.

But with the Germany international's contract expiring in 2016, speculation linking Gundogan with Manchester United is not going away.

Watzke though has slammed the reports of a move and insisted that Gundogan has not said he does not want to sign a new deal with Dortmund, something which, if it was the case, would surely prompt the club to consider cashing in.

"If Ilkay tells us he doesn't want to extend, then we'll sit down and discuss it, but that hasn't happened yet", he was quoted as saying by German broadcaster DW.

"The media has to be careful. I'm not trying to be rude, but they can't jump on everything they hear as they did yesterday", Watzke added.

Gundogan played no part in Borussia Dortmund's 2-0 Bundesliga win over Eintracht Frankfurt this afternoon due to an infection.
