Stefan Johansen has stressed captain Scott Brown's importance for Celtic, crediting the midfielder for playing a key role in the side's upturn in form earlier this season.

The Norwegian shared the Players' Player of the Year award at Celtic with Brown, while he won the Fans' Player of the Year award in his own right.

Johansen has excelled at Paradise under Ronny Deila this season, but rather than hog the limelight with his two awards was keen to pay tribute to Brown, dubbing him a key man for Celtic.

"Broony’s such a fantastic player", he told Celtic's site.

"He showed how important he is for the team when he came from his injury earlier in the season", Johansen continued.

"We didn’t have the best start to the season but when he came back, you could see the team getting better and better, and he’s such an important player for us.

"There were a lot of players in the team this season who could have won it so I’m really happy to have won this with Broony.

"He’s a great guy and a great player, so I’m very proud to win it with him."

Johansen joined Celtic in the January 2014 transfer window, but has been shifted into a more attacking role by Deila this term, with great success.

The Bhoys have already won the League Cup this season and are strong favourites to retain their Premiership crown. Should they win their next two matches, they will clinch the title.
