Louis van Gaal is hoping that Manchester United fans give Darren Fletcher a better reception that Marouane Fellaini received from the Everton faithful at Goodison Park last weekend.

The Belgian was jeered whenever he touched the ball by the Everton fans in Manchester United’s 3-0 loss to the Toffees last weekend but Van Gaal is hoping that the Manchester United supporters do better.

Fletcher, who left the club in January, is expected to receive a grand reception from the Old Trafford faithful when he visit them with his West Brom side tomorrow and the Dutchman feels he deserves exactly that.

“He’ll get a great reaction from the fans. I hope so”, Van Gaal told MUTV.

“I hope so because Marouane Fellaini was not received very well at Everton but I think the fans shall give Darren a lot of applause.”

The Manchester United boss also added that there were no bitter feelings when Fletcher left the club in January for the Baggies as he always kept a communication channel open with the player and so both knew what to expect.

“We made a decision that we were agreed on. It was not so hard because we spoke about it. I always communicate with my players.

“Sometimes it shall be hard from the outside but I have always spoken about the decision we have made together.”

Fletcher spent 15 years at Manchester United and won five Premier League titles, an FA Cup and a Champions League in his 338 appearances for the club.
