Leeds United goalkeeper Marco Silvestri says in English football fans want to see players giving their all and are willing to forgive defeats.

Silvestri was snapped up by Leeds last summer, in the process embarking upon his first adventure in the English game.

The goalkeeper has won plaudits for his performances between the sticks for the Whites and made 43 appearances in the Championship this season.

He has now had time to reflect on the differences between football in his native Italy and in England, where he has sampled the cut and thrust of the second tier.

"There is a different kind of pressure on the players", he told Gianluca Di Marzio.

"Fans mainly want to see that a player gives everything.

"If you lose, there is no drama, but they have to see that the team have really done their best.

"As for the strength, if a doctor from an Italian club came here then they would pull their hair out.

"Some players eat so much….and not just at Christmas.

"It's a strange thing, because they have a strength of their own, but during games are not affected.

"There are also differences in the way you play", Silvestri continued.

"Here football is much faster, physical and much less tactical. Compared to Italy's tactics there is very little."

Silvestri did not feature for Leeds in their final three games of the season after withdrawing with injury ahead of a trip to face Charlton Athletic in mid-April.

The goalkeeper, despite declaring himself fit, was forced to watch from the stands yesterday as Leeds drew 0-0 at home with Rotherham, Stuart Taylor selected between the sticks.
