Ajax are preparing to fight off interest in their young striker Donyell Malen from Arsenal, according to Dutch magazine Voetbal International.

The 16-year-old has been tipped for big things and Arsenal are alive to his potential, with Arsene Wenger hoping to tempt Malen to continue his footballing education in north London.

But Ajax are not ready to stand aside and allow Malen to slip through their fingers and are set to do all they can to keep him at the Amsterdam ArenA.

Malen has just been offered a contract at Ajax and the ball is now in Malen and his agent's court.

The 16-year-old's agent is none other than Italian super agent Mino Raiola, with whom Ajax are not thought to enjoy the smoothest of relationships.

Malen is considered to be one of the most promising talents in Ajax's esteemed youth system and it would be a bitter blow for the Dutch giants if he headed elsewhere.

It remains to be seen how Malen and Raiola will react to Ajax's offer.
