Daryl Janmaat admits his initial reaction upon arriving at Newcastle United last summer was to wonder why he had made the move.

Janmaat swapped Dutch giants Feyenoord for Newcastle to realise his dream of playing in the Premier League. However, he got more than he bargained for when he was confronted by the weather in the north east of England.

The Netherlands international told Omroep West: "When I first came I thought 'What am I doing here?'. It was all so grey."

But now the 25-year-old is used to Newcastle and claims to have grown to enjoy life in the north east.

"[My home] is 20 minutes away from the stadium and it's quiet. I am now used to it and I even enjoy it", he explained.

But Janmaat still has his eye on eventually returning to the Netherlands, where he would like to turn out for two of his old clubs once again, Feyenoord and ADO Den Haag.

"If I think about it now, I would like to return to Feyenoord and ADO if I return to the Eredivisie", the full-back admitted.

"We will just have to see how fit I am, because I'm still very young."

Janmaat penned a six-year deal with Newcastle last summer and has featured regularly for the Magpies this term.

At international level the right-back has 23 caps to his name for the Netherlands.
