AC Milan are eyeing a summer deal for Benfica winger Nicolas Gaitan, who has been previously linked with a move to Manchester United.

The Argentine winger has been extensively linked with a move to Old Trafford over the last few years but nothing has ever materialised. English giants Liverpool are also said to be interested in acquiring his services.

Gaitan is believed to be seeking a fresh challenge away from Benfica in the summer and Valencia are known to be keen to take him to the Mestalla at the end of the season.

However, the Argentine has new suitors in the form of AC Milan and according to Portuguese daily Record, the Italian giants are keen to see him wear their colours next season at the San Siro.

AC Milan are eying a swoop for Gaitan as part of a massive squad overhaul they wish to undertake in the summer and believe the 27-year-old’s creative qualities could prove crucial for them next term.

However, it remains to be seen whether the Rossoneri have the financial resources to pay the €35m release clause for the Argentina international as Benfica are not expected to accept any fee that is below that figure.

Gaitan joined Benfica from Boca Juniors in the summer of 2010 and still has more than three years left on his contract with the club.
