Leeds United skipper Liam Cooper has credited the club's academy for bringing through talented young players, who he believes are "great lads" to play with.

Cooper, who has worked with the academy graduates through his association with the senior squad, knows about the kind of quality that is on offer at junior level.

And having played alongside a number of academy recruits at senior level this season, Cooper is delighted to see the quality that the young players have brought to Neil Redfearn's team.

Cooper also credits the club's academy for having trusted the youngsters throughout, because that he believes is the most important thing for a player when he young and trying to build his career.

"The lads don’t play like they’re 21 or 22-year-old players, they’ve been in this league for a couple of years and that’s great credit to the academy, bringing them through", Cooper told his club's official website.

"They’ve shown trust in them as well because you need that as a young lad. I’ve been there myself and to not be trusted is not nice at [that] time."

As far as playing for the first team is concerned, the 23-year-old insists that the young players being promoted to the senior team have taken their opportunity well and have never for once looked out of place.

"But they haven’t looked out of place at all, they’re great lads with great heads on their shoulders. They’re a pleasure to play with."
