Amidst rumours of Newcastle United’s interest in acquiring his services, former England manager Steve McClaren has insisted that he is committed to his job at Derby.

The Derby boss was approached by Newcastle to take over the reins of the club from John Carver, who has overseen the club’s worst run of form in decades, for the final three Premier League games.

It emerged earlier this week that McClaren turned down the offer and former Middlesbrough boss insisted that he wants to continue at Derby beyond the summer.

McClaren is aware of the speculation surrounding his future but stressed that he is committed towards his job at Pride Park and indicated that wants to achieve promotion with Derby next season.

"I'm 100% committed to finishing the job here”, McClaren told the BBC.

"I hear the speculation, I see it, but I'm 100% committed to Derby County at this point.

“I've been saying it for months, that my total focus, my total commitment, is on Derby County.”

After a good start to their season, the Rams’ form petered off in the second half of their campaign in the Championship and they failed to make it to the playoffs.

While Carver is expected to continue at St. James’ Park until the end of the season, Newcastle are on the lookout for a new permanent manager for next term.
