Young goalkeepers Alex Cairns and Daniel Atkinson have both parted ways with Championship side Leeds United.

Former England Under-17 Atkinson international announced the news via his Twitter account, confirming he will not be at Elland Road into next season.

Atkinson wrote: "Sadly, my 9 years @LUFC came to an end today. Id like to thank all the players and coaches that I've worked with for making my time at Leeds so memorable and Id like to wish them all the best for the future!"

The custodian is expected to be one of a number of players leaving the Whites in the next few days as the club finalise which players they wish to keep hold of.

Leeds are set to announce their released and retained players' list, ahead of the deadline for doing so on Saturday.

Another goalkeeper leaving Leeds is Cairns, who also took to Twitter to confirm the news of his departure from Elland Road and echoed Atkinson in thanking all at the club.

He wrote: "My time @LUFC is finished from today. Would like to thank the club for giving me my first step in football, all the staff, players and fans that have helped me through my time at the club it's been a good one and I thank you all!"

Leeds have still to confirm whether head coach Neil Redfearn will be keeping his job at the club beyond the end of June, when his contract expires.

The Whites can keep Redfearn for a further year if they wish, while the boss also has the option of returning to head up the club's academy.
