Willem II manager Jurgen Streppel is not surprised that Celtic linked full-back Mitchell Dijks is in demand in the transfer market.

Schooled at Ajax’s youth academy, the 22-year-old Dutchman joined Willem II in the final days of last summer’s transfer window and has quickly established himself as the club’s first choice left-back.

With 27 appearances to his name, Dijks has been one of the top full-backs in the Eredivisie this season and Streppel is not too surprised that there are clubs who are knocking on Willem II’s door for the 22-year-old.

Talking about the interest surrounding Dijks, who has been linked with a move to Celtic, the Willem II boss told De Telegraaf: “There is a lot of interest around Mitchell and I find it very logical.

“Left-back is a difficult position and apart from Jetro Willems, I feel there are none better than him in the Netherlands.”

While Streppel wants to hold on to Dijks , he is aware that there are some top clubs who are interested in acquiring his services and with only one year left on his contract, he might not be able to keep him in Tilburg for too long.

The Willem II boss believes the 22-year-old is a player who thrives on confidence and he must move to a club where he will be their first choice left-back.

“Willem II have been a warm nest for someone who has not always found it easy in his past.

“As a player he needs confidence and therefore, I advise him to move to a club where he will play in most of their games in the next two seasons.

“If he gets the stability then he will make great strides.”
