Former Manchester United goalkeeper Fabien Barthez has heaped praise on his compatriot Hugo Lloris and Chelsea custodian Thibaut Courtois, saying that the Belgian is one of the best in his trade.

Lloris has been one of the standout performers for Tottenham Hotspur since he joined the club in 2012 and has been linked with a move to Manchester United, if David de Gea leaves for Real Madrid this summer.

Courtois has dislodged Petr Cech from his role as Chelsea’s number one and has enjoyed a stellar campaign with the Blues this season. He had a successful three-year loan stint with Atletico Madrid prior to his return to the west London outfit last summer.

And the 1998 World Cup winner has heaped praise on the two custodians and especially highlighted the Belgium international as a future goalkeeping great, believing he will continue to build on his performances with the newly crowned champions.

“I like Hugo a lot, and not just as a goalkeeper”, Barthez told FIFA in an interview.

“I like him as a person too.

“Then there’s Thibaut Courtois. To my mind, he’s the goalkeeping great of the future.

“And I think he’ll maintain that status for a few years too.”
