Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that his team's season doesn't end until the final whistle blows on Sunday.

The Reds, currently placed fifth in the league table with 62 points from 37 matches, lead sixth and seventh placed Tottenham and Southampton by one and two points respectively.

That essentially means that the Liverpool-based club are not assured of a European spot as yet, a fact must be playing on Rodgers' mind as he prepares to take his squad to the Britannia Stadium to take on Stoke City for their final match of the season.

The 42-year-old knows better than anyone else about the kind of hostility that they might encounter against Mark Hughes' team and therefore has asked his players put their foot on the peddle and get the job done on Sunday.

Rodgers also took time to highlight the fact that his team's aim for the season has always been to finish as high up the table as is possible and their season is not going to end until the final whistle is blown on Sunday.

"I've said at the beginning of the season that [the aim] is to finish as high as we possibly can", Rodgers told a press conference.

"That is the aim for the game. Our season doesn't finish until the whistle blows on Sunday so it'll be a tough game for us away at Stoke but we go there and we want to finish the season strong.

"I always believe it's a good sign of the team if they can keep going to the very end and that'll be our ambition against Stoke."
