Real Sociedad are confident of winning the race to sign Burnley striker Danny Ings, according to Basque outlet Diario Vasco.

The Spanish side are chasing Ings, but face stiff opposition for his signature, not least from Premier League giants Liverpool.

Ings is out of contract at Burnley in the summer and the relegated Premier League club have already confirmed he will be heading elsewhere.

Real Sociedad are now confident they have won the race for the striker and believe he could arrive at the club imminently and by 1st June at the latest.

The Basque club however are less than optimistic on another player they have been targeting, namely Xabi Alonso.

The former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder, who currently turns out for Bayern Munich, is a dream signing for Real Sociedad.

Alonso was developed in the youth ranks at Real Sociedad and remained with the club until being sold to Liverpool in 2004.

The Basque side are still hopeful the 33-year-old will return to his boyhood club, but feel they may have to wait longer to get their man.
