AC Milan manager Filippo Inzaghi is keen on keeping Chelsea loanee Marco van Ginkel at the San Siro after his impressive performances this season.

Van Ginkel joined the Serie A giants at the start of the current campaign on a season-long loan and has put in numerous impressive performances.

In an injury-interrupted season, he has made 17 appearances in all competitions for the Rossoneri, and has contributed one goal and three assists.

AC Milan boss Inzaghi is keen to extend the Dutchman’s stay at the club beyond the current season, but is resigned to the fact that the decision will rest with his parent club Chelsea.

“Unfortunately, he's not ours", the manager told his club’s website.

“But it is obvious that he has grown. He has already played seven or eight matches in a row and we begin to see a great player. He also does very well in training.”

The 41-year-old further added that Chelsea being stacked with quality midfielders may give Milan a chance to prolong Van Ginkel’s stay at the club, since it would be good for him to play on a regular basis.

“Chelsea have fantastic midfielders, but Marco does need to play to get better.

“I hope he can continue and can still be of value to us.”
